Bogra – A suspected Islamist militant accused of carrying out attack on a Shiite mosque in a northern Bogra district was reportedly killed in a gunfight between the law enforcement and the Islamists, police said on Wednesday.

Mohammad Kawser, 20, a member of the banned militant operative Jama’atulMujahideen Bangladesh, was gunned down in Shibganj of the district early on Wednesday, said police officer Gaziul Haque.

The officer said Kawsar was accused in the bomb attack on a mosque at Haripur village on November 26, 2015. One person was killed and few others wounded in the attack of the Shiite mosque.

Haque said Kawsar and his associates fired their guns when the security forces raided their den in Shibganj. The lawmen retaliated with bullets leaving Kawsar dead on the scene at about 6:00am.
